Assistant professor at Center for Neuroplasticity and Pain (CNAP), Department of Health Science and Technology (2023 224 05242)

Job description

Job description

Who are we?
CNAP is a basic research Center of Excellence established by the Danish National Research Foundation at Aalborg University, Denmark ().

We do frontline fundamental research to identify novel mechanisms involved in the dynamics of pain neuroplasticity and advance the understandings of this topic.

The mechanisms of pain neuroplasticity may include neuronal reorganisation, increased/decreased gain of signal transduction or transmission, altered neuronal receptor functions, or changes across the pain system.

CNAP applies a basic research approach to study novel aspects of the human pain neuroplasticity, using an interdisciplinary and translational neuro-engineering and neuroscience approach.

We believe that this approach, including provoking, probing, and modulation of the dynamic neuroplastic properties of the pain system over time will foster new fundamental discoveries and change the state of the art.

CNAP is an international research center with approximately 60% of our staff from outside of Denmark and an almost 50%-50% gender balance.

Our world class lab facilities enable advanced quantitative sensory/pain testing, application of advanced neurophysiological techniques (e.g. EEG, TMS, rTMS, HD-tDCS, neuronavigation), and bio-medical techniques in animal models and humans.

Research
The successful candidate should investigate the status of motor and sensory cortical excitability in low back pain patients and asymptomatic controls, as well as the modulatory effects of exercise on cortical excitability in chronic low back pain patients.

The position entails design, execution, analysis, and compiling of human experimental/clinical trials with the aim of achieving new basic neuroscientific discoveries in musculoskeletal pain.

Teaching
CNAP is affiliated to the Department of Health Science and Technology, the Faculty of Medicine, that does multidisciplinary research and teaching in the area of health science and technology.

The department has more than 250 employees and is responsible for more than 1700 students.

More than 100 PhD students are enrolled in the doctoral school affiliated to the department.

The Assistant Professor will teach within the different study programmes at the Department, incl.

Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, Medicine, Medicine with Industrial Specialisation, Biomedical Engineering and Informatics, and Pain Science and Multidisciplinary Pain Management.

Priority will be given to candidates with expertise in musculoskeletal physiotherapy or medicine.

Who are you?
  • You are a committed candidate with a PhD (or equivalent) in musculoskeletal physiotherapy, medicine or similar.

Clinical experience will be an advantage.
  • We are particularly interested in recruiting a candidate with expertise in research on low back pain and/or neurophysiological measures of cortical excitability/neuroplasticity (e.g. EEG or transcranial magnetic stimulation).
  • It is necessary that you have a high proficiency in oral and written English, as English is our working language.
  • Candidates with relevant and documented teaching qualifications will be preferred.

  • Further information
The position includes an attractive salary with experimental running costs, a well-equipped office and laboratory facilities.

CNAP also provides assistance to relocate to Aalborg, Denmark.
