Data Scientist Position at the Center for Health Data Science Job Opening In Copenhagen – Now Hiring University of Copenhagen

Center for Health Data Science (HeaDS), Department of Public Health is looking to hire a data scientist for the Center’s Data Lab, starting from 1 October 2025 or as soon as possible.

The contract will be two years.

About Center for Health Data Science:

The aim of Center for Health Data Science (HeaDS) is to strengthen data science research and use at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences.

The Center functions as a hub for research groups throughout the Faculty to establish data science as a topic of research in its own right.

The SUND DataLab (https://heads.ku.dk/datalab/) within the Center provides data science support for all research groups at SUND and is responsible for courses to improve the data science skills of the biomedical researchers at the Faculty.

We aim to cultivate a friendly work environment driven by inspired and independent people, and we hope that our new data scientist will help us build upon this.

As of January 2025, HeaDS has been integrated under the newly established Section for Health Data Science and AI at the Department of Public Health: https://publichealth.ku.dk/about-the-department/section-for-health-data-science-and-ai/

Data Scientist at HeaDS:

The main task of a Data Scientist in the DataLab is to assist researchers at SUND with their health data science related issues, questions, and data analysis.

In addition, a major role of the DataLab is to develop, teach, and host courses for employees at the Faculty, with participants ranging from PhD student to professor.

As a Data Scientist at HeaDS, you will have a varied job which will include consultancy sessions, planning and execution of courses, as well as commissioned and collaborative research projects.

You will get to utilize your expertise and specific competencies, in combination with your colleagues, to best cover the large field of health data science.

You are also expected to represent HeaDS at internal and external events and participate in outreach initiatives.

Your academic profile:

  • You have a MSc degree in bioinformatics, computer science, computational biology, biostatistics, or another similar field relating to data science
  • Programming skills in Python and R
  • Familiarity with linux
  • Previous experience with one or more of the following research areas: RNAseq data (mapping, quantification, down-stream analysis) Single cell analysis (RNA, DNA) Quantitative mass spectrometry data (proteomics, lipidomics, metabolomics) Genomics (DNA sequence analysis, GWAS analysis, population genetics) Biostatistical analysis of biomedical datasets (categorical and numerical) Analysis of biomedical images Machine learning approaches within the field of medical research
  • Additional valued skills:

  • PhD degree in bioinformatics, computer science, computational biology, biostatistics, or another similar field relating to data science
  • Knowledge of high-performance computing platforms (HPCs)
  • Experience with code sharing and collaboration using git/github
  • Teaching experience
  • Knowledge of additional programming languages
  • Well-versed in working with large datasets, e.g., storage, data management, and computing
  • Your personal competencies.

    You are

  • Independent, creative, forward-thinking, and have good decision-making skills
  • Outgoing and good with people, and you enjoy teaching within your field of expertise
  • Proficient in English.

    Speaking and/or understanding Danish is a plus
  • Flexible and interested in taking on different tasks.

    As HeaDS is a small Center our priorities and assignments may change, and you may have to familiarize yourself with new procedures as we go along
  • Terms of Employment:

    The employment will be as academic employee or special consultant depending on qualifications and experiences in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Government and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

    Your salary level will be based on seniority, and a supplement may be negotiated.

    There is a monthly contribution to a pension fund (18,07 % of the salary).

    The position is fulltime and for 2 years.

    37 hours a week.
